With their innovative and engaging approach, Chaos Theory managed to captivate audiences, ensuring an unforgettable experience for basketball fans.
Chaos Theory’s journey began three months ago when they received the NBA Finals Durban viewing party brief. The Team submitted a detailed proposal encompassing a thorough logistical and operational event plan, with a creative treatment, conceptualising and detailing a festival-style viewer experience, transforming the event into a vibrant, interactive celebration of basketball.
The outdoor area was designed to reflect an authentic festival vibe, complete with food trucks and various activations. One of the highlights was the ‘Half Court’ activation, where attendees could shoot hoops while enjoying their drinks and snacks. The area also featured expansive lounge spaces with pergolas, allowing guests to relax and watch the game on delay screens.
A giant inflatable basketball served as a photo opportunity, drawing attention and creating a fun, memorable moment for guests.
Upon entering the venue, attendees were greeted by a massive arch adorned with a hanging net and an elevated basketball, setting the stage for the immersive experience inside. A 360-degree booth featured the team finalists’ jerseys and four Hennessy-branded basketballs created a full-circle experience for guests, allowing them to stand in the booth and be surrounded by the Hennessy NBA Finals branding, with the jerseys and balls rotating around them, enhancing the immersive feel of the event.
The evening’s premier attractions included Two standout activations.
- The LED Interactive Basketball ‘Shoot the Hoop’ challenge engaged guests in a ‘best of 3’ competition, with top scorers earning a place on the leaderboard , which later they battled out with a penalty shoot-out.
- The ‘Slow Mo Slam Dunk’ was the evening’s centrepiece, allowing participants to launch themselves off a platform, attempt a slam dunk, and land in a foam pit, all captured on a slow-motion camera. This activation was a crowd favourite, providing both excitement and entertainment.
For the game itself, Chaos Theory created a unique viewing experience. Grandstands were set up around a central bar area, which featured four massive screens in a cube formation above the bar, ensuring everyone had a perfect view of the action. The bar, illuminated in red, served Hennessy cocktails and premium beverages from the RGBC Group, adding a touch of sophistication to the event.
